Access to Shimanami Kaido cycling course

There are three ways to access from Tokyo

There are mainly three ways to access the Shimanami Kaido cycling course from Tokyo. The first method is to access Hiroshima Airport by airplane. The second method is to access using the Shinkansen. The third method is to access Matsuyama Airport in Ehime Prefecture.

Access by plane to Hiroshima air port

By airplane, go from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Hiroshima Airport, and from Hiroshima Airport take a limousine bus to Mihara Station. Travel from Mihara Station to Onomichi Station by train. If you take this course, it will take about 3 hours and 30 minutes. The cost is approximately 42,000 yen ($ 390) for regular expenses.

You have to use a limousine bus to get from Hiroshima Airport to Onomichi. This is because there is no direct train to Hiroshima Airport. Please note that you have to travel by limousine bus.

There are various discount fares for aircraft costs, so I recommend that you contact your travel agency.

Access by Shinkansen

To access Onomichi from Tokyo by Shinkansen, take the Shinkansen Nozomi at Tokyo Station to Fukuyama Station. At this Fukuyama station, transfer to the JR local line and go to Onomichi station.

It takes about 4 hours to access Onomichi by Shinkansen. The cost is about 17000 yen (about 160 dollars).

Some Shinkansen Nozomi trains do not stop at Fukuyama station. Therefore, I recommend that you ask station staff if you want to stop at Fukuyama station.

Access by plane to Matsuyama air port

Dogo Onsen (currently under renovation)

Matsuyama Castle

Matsuyama City in Ehime Prefecture is a tourist destination with an old castle and the oldest hot spring in Japan, Dogo Onsen. (Dogo Onsen is currently under renovation, so you won’t see the photo-like appearance.) You can also access Shimanami Kaido from Matsuyama.

The access point to the Shimanami Kaido cycling course is Imabari

If you use Matsuyama Airport, the access point to the Shimanami Kaido cycling course is Imabari.

The flight from Haneda Airport to Imabari is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. The cost of flying from Haneda Airport to Imabari by air is approximately 40,000 yen (about $ 370) at regular rates.
